Jeffrey N. Shane, Department of Transportation
Jeffrey N. Shane was appointed by the President as Under Secretary of Transportation
for Policy at the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) in 2003. In this position,
he serves as principal policy advisor to the Secretary of Transportation, with
oversight responsibility for the Office of Transportation Policy and the Office
of Aviation and International Affairs. Previously, he served as Associate Deputy
Secretary of Transportation. Before returning to public service, Shane was a partner
at the international law firm of Hogan & Hartson L.L.P. in its Washington,
D.C. office. He had a domestic and international transportation practice, with
a major emphasis on regulatory, legislative, and transactional issues. Prior to
entering the private practice of law, Shane held a number of other positions in
transportation at DOT, including as Assistant Secretary for Policy and International
Affairs, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy and International Affairs, and
Assistant General Counsel for International Law. He also served as Deputy Assistant
Secretary of State for Transportation Affairs. Shane received his undergraduate
degree from Princeton University and his law degree from Columbia University.
